As Vancouver welcomes the world to the 2010 Olympics, Buschlen Mowatt Gallery is proud to present New Works by Lawrence Paul Yuxweluptun and Jim Hart exhibiting from February 8 - March 31st.
Lawrence Paul Yuxweluptun is a recipient of the Vancouver Institute for the Visual Arts (VIVA) award in 1998, Yuxweluptun has exhibited in numerous solo and group exhibitions nationally and internationally at museums and galleries in Taiwan, United States, France, Pain, England and Switzerland. His paintings are in collections of the Vancouver Art Gallery, Vancouver, BC; Canadian Museum of Civilization; Department of Indian and Northern Affairs; Smithsonian Museum of National Gallery, New York; and the National Gallery of Canada, Ottawa. His work is also included in many private and corporate collections.
Jim Hart was born in 1952 into the Eagle Clan at Old Massett. He began carving seriously in 1979, and worked for Bill Reid from 1980 to 1984. He assisted with several of Bill's large-scale sculptures including The Raven and the First Men (at the Museum of Anthropology) and The Lord of the Undersea (at the Vancouver Aquarium). Jim also worked for acclaimed Haida artist Robert Davidson. After refining his jewelry-making techniques in Vancouver for two years, Jim moved back to Haida Gwaii. He now divides his time between Old Massett and Vancouver.
