Due to customs delay the works of Charles Arnoldi will be on display from Feb 8th - March 31st with the opening reception post-poned to March 4th from 5:30 - 8 pm.
As Vancouver welcomes the world to the 2010 Olympics, Buschlen Mowatt Gallery features New Paintings by American Master Charles Arnoldi.
Charles Arnoldi is a contemporary American artist who from an early age caught the attention of the art world receiving the Young Talent Award from the Los Angeles County Museum of Art; and the John Simon Guggenheim Fellowship among others. He is collected extensively throughout the United States and is in museum collections in the Metropolitan Museum of Art, New York; San Francisco Museum of Modern Art, California; Smithsonian American Art Museum, Washington D.C.; and the Portland Art Museum, Portland, Oregon among 20 others. His work is also in permanent collections of the National Gallery of Art, Sydney, Australia; Guggenheim Bilbao, Spain; and The Contemporary Museum, Honolulu, Hawaii.
Charles Arnoldi is widely recognized as a contemporary California artist known for his wood sculptures and brightly-colored, abstract paintings and prints. Arnoldi quickly gained recognition in the 1970s and 1980s Los Angeles art world for his innovative tree branch paintings and wood sculptures. His earlier works were almost primitive in their simplicity and shape resembling woven stick baskets delicately balanced. Later, as he moved away from wood sculpture, he became more interested in color, and created a number of abstract collages, prints and paintings. His paintings displayed free-flowing organic shapes like twists and loops with a sense of motion not seen before in his work.
Arnoldi has exhibited internationally including exhibitions at the Arts Club of Chicago, Illinois (1986), the Los Angeles County Museum of Art (1983), the Brooklyn Museum (1986) and the Museum of Contemporary Art Los Angeles (1992).
