For Mazal, the process he is evolving is the essential content of his painting, one in which the photographic, the digital, video, drawing and painting converge to make a contemporary work.” --Lilly Wei from the book Ricardo Mazal Odenwald 1152, 2008 Ricardo Mazal was born in 1950 in Mexico City and currently resides in Santa Fe, New Mexico and New York City. He exhibits his work in major international galleries in New York, Vancouver, San Francisco, Mexico City, Barcelona and Hong Kong among others. He has been the subject of two major retrospective exhibitions, at the Museo de Arte Contemporaneo de Monterrey, Mexico and the Museo de Arte Moderno in Mexico City. He has also exhibited his work in the Museo Nacional de Antropologia, Mexico City; the Americas Society, New York City; and the Scottsdale Museum of Contemporary Art among others. Mazal is a two-time recipient of the prestigious Creador Artístico award, granted by the Sistema Nacional de Creadores de Arte (FONCA), Mexico. He is also a previous recipient of the Pollack-Krasner Foundation grant.
