Buschlen Mowatt Gallery showcases Coast by local legend and internationally acclaimed Cori Creed from August 15th - September 15th, 2009. Our local coast provides a magnificent vehicle for exploring the surface and colour of paint on canvas. The tangles and textures of fall and winter branchwork, the cold granite bearing raw and figurative arbutus trees. The fleeting and varied moods of the climate and skies. I am striving to create a place and a mood and an appreciation for what we have out our back door, but also to make the viewer aware of the surface and the medium. The sediment play as drips travel down a canvas, the undisguised under-painting wash, the ragged drybrushed strokes. In some pieces there is a juxtaposition of the illusion of 2 dimensional space with 3 dimensional. I am deeply inspired by our wild places as well as by the very act of painting and nature of paint - this show is an ode to both.Artists I have drawn inspiration from for this show are Peter Doig, Gordon Smith, and Joichi Hoshi whose work shares an evident joy in and mastery of their mediums. - Cori Creed     www.coricreed.com/
