Biography
Both eastern and western, Judith Foosaner's work combines calligraphic and gestural elements to produce works of singular beauty and richness. Line marries shape marries space marries movement. Working only in black for the past five years, Foosaner characterizes each work as "a complete choreography." An experience of watching this work is an experience of dance. Foosaner has exhibited widely and actively for more than forty years. Her work is in the collection of the Oakland Art Museum in Oakland, California, the Crocker Art Museum in Sacramento, California, the Newport Harbor Art Museum in Newport Harbor, California and the San Diego Fine Art Museum in San Diego, California. She is also in the collection of the Everson Art Museum in Syracuse, New York, the Arkansas Arts Center in Little Rock, Arkansas and the Albuquerque Museum in Albuquerque, New Mexico. She has been the recipient of fellowships at the Yaddo Artists Colony in Syracuse, New York and the Virginia Center of Creative Arts in Sweet Briar, Virginia and has taught extensively at the California College of the Arts in Oakland/San Francisco as well as the University of California at Berkeley and Davis and the Wimbledon School of Art in London.
