Biography
Charles Arnoldi is a contemporary American artist known for his wood sculptures and birghtly coloured, abstract paintings and prints. His early works were almost primitive in their simplicity and shape, resembling woven stick baskets delicately balanced.These works caught the attention of the art world, as at a young age he received the Young Talent Award from the Los Angeles County Museum and the John Guggenheim Fellowship among others. Later he moved away from wood sculpture, becoming more interest ed in color, creating a number of abstract collages, prints and paintings. His paintings displayed free-flowing organic shapes like twists and loops with a sense of motion not seen before in his work.He is collected extensively throughout the united States and is in musuem collections in the Metroplitian Museum of Art, New York; San Franscico Museum of Modern Art, california; Smithsonian American Art Museum, Washington D.C. and the Portland Art Museum, Oregeon among 20 others. His work is also in the permanent collections of the National Gallery of Art Sydney, Australia; Guggenheim Bilbao, Spain; and the Contemporary Museum, Honolul, Hawaii.
